Kelsey
I slept amazingly that night. Who knew that really, really good sex was the perfect sleep aid? I woke feeling refreshed and even more focused on my task at hand. Seeing that girl at his apartment had reminded me I had been spending too much time flirting and having fun with Chase. But he wasn’t my endgame. Now that I’d learned several important lessons, it was time to take those skills and apply them to my future relationship with Justin.
Now was the time for him to notice me.
But it wasn’t easy to focus on Justin when Chase kept texting me all morning. It was mostly silly memes and cat pictures, the same stuff we’d been texting all week, but every time, my damn heart flipped over in my chest.
Oh Kelsey, you’ve got it bad.
I tried to keep my head. I couldn’t stop thinking about the brunette from the bar and what might have happened after I had left.
I didn’t like what I was feeling, which seemed suspiciously like jealousy. So, I ignored it, and I ignored Chase’s texts, focusing on work, of which there was plenty. We were barreling towards the release of the new men’s suit line, and I had plenty of work to keep me occupied, with press releases and emails out to all the top style bloggers and fashion writers.
“Knock, knock,” came a familiar voice from my doorway.
I looked up to find Justin standing there, looking absolutely scrumptious in his button-down and pants. His hair was perfectly styled—as usual—and he gave me a dazzling smile as a greeting.
“Can I bother you for a moment?” he asked, coming into my office.
“You’re never a bother,” I smiled.
He really was strikingly beautiful. So why did I keep thinking about Chase’s messy hair and devilish grin? Justin was right here, right in front of me. I should be able to focus on him, instead of having my mind wander all the way across town to Rascals.
“What are you doing tonight?” Justin asked, pausing by my desk.
“Not much,” I said as I braced myself for disappointment—for another late night of work while Justin went on a date with a beautiful model type. “What do you need?”
“I need you,” he said.
My heart stopped.
“To come with me to the Cubs game tonight,” he finished.
I let out of a breath, and then realized what he had asked.
“The Cubs game?” I was a little confused. Was he asking me on a date? It didn’t really sound like a date, but at least he wasn’t asking me to work late.
“We have some corporate sponsors in town,” he explained. “And we got a box for the game tonight. You did such a great job charming them the last time they were here that I think it would be a good idea for you to come along.”
OK. So it wasn’t a date. It was another work event. But maybe it could be considered progress? I wasn’t quite sure at this point. I needed an expert to help me assess the situation.
